10 Days of Adventure
The route runs through a land marked by the silence and the mystery that at first sight, appears to be a rough and rugged territory, but that soon shows itself to the visitor as a captivating Eden: solitary farmhouses, wide roads, fragile rivers, mountains, orchards that cover the rivers and ravines, villages that stand on hillsides or that lean out dizzily over a cliff. A landscape of balance between nature and history in surroundings that have hardly changed.
Itinerary
Afternoon – bike allocation, condition check, introduction to other tour participants, meeting. By the time you arrive at the airport in Malaga, there will be one of our guides waiting for you already. About a half an hour transfer to Alhaurin el Grande, dinner, meeting and off to bed, tomorrow is an early start.
We start our journey heading east into the Sierras above Malaga before riding south to the coast road near Nerja. After lunch on the beach we will ride up the twisty Sierra del Chaparral and and then turn east into The Alpujaras . Mountain villages known as Las Alpujarras clings to the southern flanks of the Sierra Nevada , cloven by deep, sheltered valleys and gorges. We will spend a night in a rural hotel, enjoying the best of the local cuisine.
After breakfast we continue our journey on sweeping mountain roads towards Almeria. We turn north and stop for lunch in the desert of Tabernas. We ride some fantastic twisty mountain roads before we reach our castle for the night, housing the Parador of Lorca.
We start north avoiding the busy traffic of Murcia and continue on scenic country roads to Caravaca de la Cruz. After coffee stop we reach the exciting mountain roads of the National Parque de la Muela de Cortes. We spend the afternoon on bendy mountain roads with amazing views until we arrive in our rather trendy hotel with a spa.
The best is about to begin. The natural beauty of this region is renowned . IT´s sometimes hard to keep your eyes on the road with so much beauty everywhere around. The roads are thrilling and deserted and the medieval villages with narrow cobbled streets invite you to stop and take photographs on every corner. After another exciting day the plan is to arrive on time to explore this legendary town.
Today’s day off is not really a day off. If today´s route has become famous for anything, it is because of its curves, and if anyone likes curves, it is us.
You have to be willing to stop as many times as necessary, because every curve, every bend in the road, holds a surprise. Impossible ravines, villages perched on hillocks, vertiginous viewpoints, infinite landscapes, farmhouses, fortified towers, natural monuments… Today surely is one of the memorable days of the trip.
We start west and spend the day admiring the beauty of the Parque Natural de Sierra de Cuenca. We will head to Cuenca for lunch and a short exploration on foot, before awe continue to another medieval jewel of the region, where we will spend the night in “yet another castle”
We say good bye to Alarcon and ride south towards Cazorla National Park on sweeping country roads with little traffic. We pass Robledo and reach the Natural park of Cazorla. The roads are real heaven for every biker and the views are stunning. You can occasionally spot a deer or a mountain goat grassing next to the road.We spend the night in a beautiful Parador set in the heart of the National Park .
.We turn south west and ride through a rural and agricultural areas with lakes and olive groves to the lake La Viñuela for lunch. Past Antequera , we ride on to El Chorro , famous for the “Caminito del Rey”,a narrow cliffside path hanging 100m above the waters of the river Guadalhorce. From here its only a short ride to our hotel back in Alhaurin and then for a farewell dinner on our last evening.
